Urological Oncology

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Urological Oncology Department, operating since the foundation of the Hospital’s Nursing Unit (1975), is located on the 5th floor and has 16 beds. It carries out the whole range of urological oncological interventions using state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic methods, while in cooperation with the oncological chemotherapy clinics, the radiotherapy oncology department, as well as all other departments and clinics of the hospital, it manages patients with complex oncological problems.
All of our patients are registered in the hospital’s records, each having their personal medical file that follows them on every outpatient visit or eventual hospitalization. The Urology – Oncology Department has maintained a large file of oncology patients for 45 years.

The Urology – Oncology Department is modernly equipped and has highly trained partners, doctors and nursing staff.

ACTIVITIES

The Urology – Oncology Department, covers the full range of surgical procedures of the urogenital system, including major specialized oncological surgeries (Total Cystectomies, Radical Prostatectomies, Radical and partial nephrectomies, Ureteronectomies, Radical Pectomies, etc.).
Daily operations are performed, involving malignant and benign diseases of the genitourinary system.

They operate Outpatient clinics twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday), Evening Clinics (twice a week every Tuesday and Thursday), Surgeries every Monday, Wednesday, Friday as well as a clinic for diagnostic and local procedures every Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
Regarding the field of benign prostatic hyperplasia, 2 (two) bipolar transpolar transponders (TURis) have been added to the Urology – Oncology Department, with which the surgery is performed bloodlessly.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

Our department currently grants residency to 3 resident physicians (a fourth position has been approved). Every 15 days (Thursdays 13:00 – 14:00) there are in-clinic courses and literature briefings by all the Doctors of the Department, covering the whole spectrum of urology, in which doctors of other specialties ( Chemotherapists, Nuclear Physicians, Pathologists, etc.) participate.

The Urology – Oncology Department of the ANTH ¨Theagenio¨ organizes annually the Scientific Conference of Urogenital Oncology of Northern Greece in collaboration with other Scientific Societies.

Since 2013, every year our Department, in collaboration with the SURGICAL ONCOLOGY RESEARCH SOCIETY OF GREECE, organizes a Scientific Event on Uro-oncology, lasting 3 (three) days, aiming to inform and educate urologists on oncological issues. The event is attended by participating Doctors from all over Greece who are involved in Urological Oncology.
