About the department
The Radiology Laboratory has been offering prevention and diagnostic services for 5 decades, specializing in oncological imaging, within the framework of the operation of the “Theagenio” Cancer Hospital. It is also active in the field of science education, by training residents of the department (full specialization is provided) and residents of other hospitals in Northern Greece in the Department of Mammography and the further training of radiologists of NHS doctors in breast imaging.
The permanent staff of the department consists of 6 radiology specialists, 11 technologists – operators, and 5 nurses.
Its technological equipment includes 2 digital radiological machines, 1 X-ray imaging system, 5 portable digital radiological machines (2 of which are digital), 2 digital mammography machines, 3 ultrasonographs, and 1 CT scanner with 16 sections.
The laboratory is constantly developing and updating its infrastructure in terms of medical equipment to cover other areas of radiological diagnostics.

Activities
Simple X-rays. Bedside radiographs
Intravenous pyelography, gastrointestinal tract patency, targeted examinations (digestive and urinary tract) under fluoroscopic control, videofluoroscopy of swallowing (VFSS), video fluoroscopy of the esophagus
Screening and diagnostic mammograms. Carrying out special shots and mammography of surgical preparation.
Minimally invasive breast procedures under mammographic and ultrasound control (FNA, core biopsy, marking of non-palpable lesions with hook).
Ultrasound of thyroid and cervix, breast, and other superficial organs, upper and lower abdomen, and Triplex vessels.
Ultrasound guidance for puncture – drainage of collections, diagnostic punctures (FNA) of thyroid, lymph nodes, and other superficial organs.

Computed tomography angiography of the pulmonary artery, neck, thoracic aorta, abdominal aorta, and iliac arteries
Triphasic CT scan of pancreas, liver, abdomen, 4D CT scan of parathyroid glands

Operating schedule
Regular outpatient clinics, during the morning hours, where patients attending the Theagenio Hospital are served on a priority basis
Preventive mammography check within the operation of the “GEORGIOS GENIMATAS” Preventive Control Centre
Daily 24-hour on-call service for inpatients Evening outpatient clinics (CT scanner)

For an appointment at the CT Department
You or a representative need to come to the Computed Tomography Department with your electronic referral form to the Computed Tomography Registry during working days from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm, to receive preparation instructions depending on the examination you will be performing.
