About the department

The pulmonology-oncology department is housed on the 3rd floor of the ANTH Theagenio and consists of 12 patient beds, 2 doctors’ offices, and an office (stop) for the head nurse-receptionist.

Special Units

A bronchoscopy unit consisting of 2 fiberoptic bronchoscopes, a Cryoablation device (donated by Pan. Karvounidis), and soon EBUS installation (donated by the Region of Central Macedonia on the initiative of the vice-regional governor Mrs. Patoulidou of the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki) as well as ultrasound and electrocautery device.

Activities

  • Special Smoking Cessation Clinic in the context of information and prevention of lung diseases and lung cancers.
  • Histological and cytological confirmation of lung cancer as well as metastases of other neoplasms by performing bronchoscopy as well as the opening of intrabronchial constrictions and treatment of microbleeds by using Cryoablation.
  • Operation of regular outpatient clinics twice a week for investigation-diagnosis of lung diseases and lung cancer, follow-up of these patients as well as patients from other oncology departments requiring pulmonary evaluation. Also, pulmonological assessments of inpatients, as well as their pre-operative check-ups, are done by the pulmonologists daily.
  • Hospitalization of patients with Cα of the lung in the 12 beds of the clinic with the administration of chemotherapies and/or immunotherapies as well as their supportive treatment.
  • In the day-care department on the 9th floor, twice a week, patients with good PS or without particular comorbidities are monitored and given treatments.
  • Once or twice a week there are interdepartmental courses with up to date topics related to the specialty of pulmonology and last year and SARS-COV-II as the physicians of the department actively contributed since the beginning of the pandemic by taking: nasopharyngeal swabs, participating in the vaccination program, and moving to AHEPA since the beginning of the second wave of the disease of pulmonologist I. Kokkoris.
  • The participation of our center in research protocols with innovative and pioneering pharmaceutical preparations enables some patients to join them and receive the promising new drugs, thus strengthening in us health workers the conviction in our work and the hope for timely and more effective treatments; a conviction that we seek to be embraced by the hundreds of patients that we oversee every year.

Operating Programme

  1. Regular outpatient clinics on Wednesdays and Fridays by appointment 8 am-3 pm.
  2.  Special Smoking Cessation Clinic every Tuesday 12 pm-3 pm in the screening room.
  3.  Bronchoscopies every weekday by appointment.
  4.  Daily inpatient and emergency admissions for patients in the inpatient department only.
  5.  Every Monday and Thursday conducting day hospitalization on the 9th floor.
