Psychologist

About the department

The position of psychologist in the hospital’s organization was filled in 2002. Since then, the psychologist has continuously provided her services, with ongoing training focused on the needs of the hospital and its inpatients. A 2nd psychologist was added to the Hospital’s staff in 2020.

The role of the psychologist is, with his or her discreet presence, to listen to the concerns of patients in the difficult phase of cancer diagnosis and to accompany them through their illness, treatment period, and recovery.

Psychological support provides an interpretive framework for the patient to explain feelings, thoughts, or behavior that may seem incomprehensible while building on their coping strategies for their times of difficulty. The end goal is to provide patients with relief and control over their experiences.

At the same time, the psychologists support the patients’ companions and their families, allowing them to discuss issues such as informing children about cancer and the possible loss of a loved one.

In addition, in this special area, support services are also provided for the hospital staff and, in collaboration with the psychiatrist, surveys are planned and carried out to focus on the needs of staff and improve working conditions.

Furthermore, to continuously improve the provided Health Services, the holistic approach to the individual, and the Promotion of Health, there is continuous cooperation with other Services and Professionals of the Hospital. In this context, activities such as Smoking Cessation Groups, Staff Support Groups, etc. are organized.

Finally, the Hospital offers the possibility of practical training through the ESPA program to students of the Department of Psychology as part of their undergraduate studies.
